Project Administrator using Microsoft Access 2010 64-bit

Wednesday, November 9th, 2011

We have had some enquiries from users who have 64-bit versions of Office (not 64-bit versions of Windows).  We do not support Access 2010 64-bit. If you have this version of Access, you will need to install a 32-bit runtime version of Access to run PA. For more information read the following Microsoft Technical Bulletin.

It seems Access 64 bit is still a bit immature for running many applications.  This is from the article above.

“Office 2010 lets users continue to use existing Microsoft ActiveX Controls, Component Object Model (COM) add-ins, and Visual Basic for Applications (VBA), which are primarily 32-bit because no 64-bit versions are available yet for many add-ins. Supporting 32-bit Office 2010 applications that run on 64-bit operating systems allows for better compatibility with controls, add-ins, and VBA.”

Having read this, carried out our own testing, and talking with other developers, we will not be supporting Office 64-bit at this stage.  When it becomes more mature we will reconsider.

If you are running Windows 7 64-bit and  Access 32-bit you can run PA.

After sitting on 50 for a few months – Botswana was country number 50 – we have now sold in our 51st country.  The honour goes to Austria.  We just sold a 5 user license to a company in Austria.  Hopefully they speak English.

Project Administrator Build 12 released

Friday, March 11th, 2011

Today we have released build 12 of Project Administrator Project Managment Software.  Build 6 addresses two minor bugs relating to the use of distribution lists in emails, and being able to select all projects when viewing the project screen.  We also added an enhancement to enable version update checking to be suspended.  This was requested by an organisation that wanted to roll out upgrades themselves rather than have prompts to download from the web when an upgrade was available.

You can now download our Project Administrator Project Management software even if you don’t have Microsoft Access installed.  We have developed a version that installs an Access runtime file that will allow you to use the software. Project Administrator enables a project manager to manage the schedule, risks, issues, actions, changes, budgets and expenditure, documents, roles and responsibilities and much more – all through one piece of software.
