    1. Review Phase Zero Plan for completeness and accuracy
    2. Review the plan for the next phase
    3. Get authorisation from the Initiator and IT Management to move to the next phase
  • Agreement from the Sponsor to move to the Project Planning Phase

A critical step that must be taken before the project moves to Project Planning Phase is to appoint a Sponsor. It may very well be that the Initiator is to become the Sponsor but it should be agreed now as to who is going to be the Sponsor. The Sponsor is responsible for providing resources (money and physical resources) to the project. They are the person who will champion the project and provide support at senior levels. Ultimate responsibility for the outcome rests with this person.

Before moving to the next phase, the Sponsor should review the work undertaken in this phase to ensure it is complete and accurate. They should give written sign off to the project - or potential project - to move to the next stage.

Gate Form Template to be signed before the project moves to the next phase. The template should be signed by the Sponsor. The form stays with the project file and is signed off at each gate.
